The
composition of the water of the lake was examined as
early as the 18th century, but an accurate analysis
has only been carried out in the second half of the
last century. During the middle Ages in Hungary waters
of our medicinal springs were deliberately used. Nowadays
it is a universal phenomenon that the physician and
patient are turning again to natural therapies. (The
essence of the therapy of Héviz is that, owing to the
accumulated scientific experiences, the curative bath
are "dosed" to the patients according to
the medical practice of several decades even centuries.)
A specific feature of the cure of Héviz is that the
curative bathing is carried out in the open air within
the warm water of the lake covering a large area. The
effect of the therapy of Héviz is complex, within which
the temperature of the water, it's chemical composition,
the mud, the air, the radioactive radiation and the
climate play a significant role. (The duration of the
cure of Héviz is 2 to 3 weeks.) The curative effect
of the lake extends over a wide range of diseases (pf
organs of locomotion). Rheumatic
diseases, with the exception of acute inflammation,
react well to the medicinal bathing of Héviz. Joint
injuries resulting from contemporary life-style deficiencies
are also cured by the bathing at Héviz. In the case
of complaints of the intervertebral disk, a complex
treatment is required with baths, physiotherapy, medical
massage, medical gymnastics etc., the effect of which
in the great majority of the cases the chirurgical
intervention can be avoided. Sulphides play an important
role in the construction of the cartilage. The advantageous
effects of the sulphurated lake on the articular diseases
have been documented for centuries. The muscle loosening
effect of the sulphurated and radioactive warm water
of Héviz is also very effective against the pains of
tight, cramped muscles. A decrease in inflammation
and the analgesic effect of the lake of Héviz have
been hugely effective in the majority of the diseases
of sciatica, and since the introduction of the medicinal
weight bath the curative results have been substantially
improved. This has also prevailed in the cases of neuritis
and tenosynovitis of other origin, and the well-known
hydrostatic effect of the weight of the water in the
treatment of the varicose veins increases the effectiveness
of the therapy. The
bath of Héviz is suitable not only for treatment of
rheumatic diseases, but also for the curing of residual
pain after injuries and accidents. The effectiveness
of the bathing cures of Héviz manifests itself not
only in an immediate softening of the actual complaints,
but also the return of the pain can be prevented in
many cases for a long time. A great number of
rheumatic patients suffer from acute pains annually
in the chilly winter weather. After a bathing cure
of Héviz the great majority manage to survive the winter
without any complaint or with slight complaints. The
bathing cure of Héviz is not only in the bath treatment
of locomotor diseases, but also the sulphur contents
of the medicinal waters have an advantageous effect
against some skin diseases. In order to make the most
of the curative effect of the water, physicians use
many other forms of therapy in addition to the bathing
in the lake of Heviz. One of the most known modes of
treatment is the medicinal weight bath, which was introduced
in Héviz by Doctor Károly Moll in 1953. The treatment
is carried out in such a way that the patient, suspended
from his neck and leaning with his arm as well as his
armpit, hangs in the water, and weights are suspended
on his waist or ankles with the help of belt, and the
weights are increased from 2kg to 20 kg. The aim of
the therapy is that, in a softened way through the
elevating power of the water, the vertebrae are removed
from each other, approximately stretching out the vertebral
column.This
makes the withdrawal of the protruded intervertebral
disc possible, holding the nerves under pressure sorting
from the spinal marrow. Results proved that,
through pulling apart of the vertebral column, the
intervertebral disc slipped back into its original
place. Mud treatment is a regular costituent
of the balneo-therapy, but it is also an independent
treatment. There is no other method with which such
an intensive hyperemia and warming up can be caused
as the mud treatment. Where rheumatic pains or
deformation occur, the capillary vessel circulation
is always injured and, as a consequence of the relative
constriction of the arteries, the slag material accumulates,
the pain increases and the functions decrease. The
profound hyperemia of tissue solves this problem and
the effect of the mud is similar to that of the water,
but is more intensive. It appears that the curative
effect is as a result of the organic materials of big
molecules. Mechanotherapy is one of the most
ancient therapies of the mankind. It constitutes
part of the complex cure of every health resort, but
at the same time it is also an independent therapy.
Massage is a mechanical therapy carried out on the
surface of the body, which affects the tissues to be
found under the skin, primarily the muscular system. At
the same time it produces complex reactions. The classical
Swedish (medical) massage is one of the basic procedures
of the bathing culture. It restores the elasticity
of the skin, removes the slag material being deposited
in the lower layers of the skin, increases the circulation
of the muscle so increasing its efficiency, and has
a general analgesic and calming effect.
The
mud treatment is regular completion of the balneo-therapy,
but it is an independent treatment, too. There is no
other method with which such an intensive hyperemia
and warming up can be caused, as the mud treatment
.Where rheumatic pains or deformation occur, there

and as a consequence of the relative constriction of
the arteries, the slag material accumulates, the pains

It seems that the curative effect is behind the organic
materials of big molecules. The

it is also an independent therapy. Massage is a mechanical
therapy carried out on the surface of the body, which
affects the tissues to be found under the skin, above
all the muscular system, and at the same time - as
it produces complex reactions - it influences advantageously
the working of the organism also in a long -range perspective.
